ALVINGHAM ABBEY LANE TF 39 SE (east side) 4/3 Church of 9.3.67 St. Adelwold G.V. I Parish church. c.1300, C15, C16, 1806, restored 1933.

Architectural Features

West tower of c.1300 with moulded plinth and 4 stage diagonal buttresses.

Moulded eaves above with large gargoyle in centre of each face.

North side of nave with buttress to west and 2 C15 rectangular windows to east, each with 3 cusped, round headed lights and small vertical mullions rising from top of each light and each with moulded cornice.

Late C16 south porch with plinth and south doorway with flat head, rounded corners, broad chamfered surround and iron gate.

Inner doorway of c.1300, with pointed, askew head, roll moulded head and jambs in one and plank door.

Interior tower arch of c.1300, with richly moulded, pointed head supported on plain polygonal corbel to north, and stylised foliate corbel to south.

Late C13 doorway inside tower with pointed head, and chanfered head and jambs in one.

Broad C14 chancel arch with pointed, double chamfered head dying into walls.

C13 octagonal font on richly moulded base and plinth.

C20 pews, altar rail and pulpit.

Grey and white marble monument with urn to John Emeris, died 1835.
