Church of C12, mainly C14, and 1851 restoration refacing C14 work.

Architectural Features

C14 tower of 3 stages with restored W window, slits in next stage, 4 Dec bell openings, and battlements.

N arcade of 3 bays, double chamfered arches, first bay of C12 round arched, others pointed.

C19 wall monument above.

Dating from the restoration of 1851, by William Butterfield.  Butterfield was a famous architect from  the Ecclesiological Society and a member of the "Oxford movement".  He specialised in a Gothic revival style.  Butterfield was employed to rebuild this church, his only commission in Rutland, by Viscount Downe, the last member of the ancient Dawnay family to live in the Manor of Ashwell.
