St Michael’s Church at Garton-on-the-Wolds has a west tower buttressed like a castle keep. The exterior of the church is mainly Norman with the doorways having round arches and the windows tiny gaps. The church was extensively restored in the 1850s when the chancel was rebuilt in the Norman style. The interior is famous for its murals by Clayton & Bell which cover the walls of the nave and chancel.
