Foundation by C12, with some C12 work probably remaining in south nave wall, chancel altered C13, tower added by C14

Architectural Features

raised probably in C15, chancel rebuilt 1841 and north transept extended west to form aisle, nave and aisle lengthened by one bay 1879, north east corner aisle and south east vestry added 1955.

Tower of 2 stages with stringcourse, stepped diagonal buttresses on lower stage, embattled parapet with gargoyles, polygonal north west stair vice and turret with weathervane.

Dedicated to St Catherine this church at Westonbirt now serves Westonbirt School, which is just visible to the right, as a chapel. The church dates from the 14th century, and is surrounded by the private grounds of the school.

South porch of C14 has stepped hollow moulded pointed arch with large coped gable and small diagonal buttresses, low stone side seats and trefoiled stoup to east, arch-braced collar beam roof.

Base of tower used as Baptistery with squint through tower arch to chancel and Perpendicular octagonal font with quatrefoil panelling.

Marble monument to Robert (the elder) and George Holford in north east aisle by R. Westmacott the younger, and alabaster recumbent effigy on tomb chest with cusped canopy of Robert Stayner Holford, died 1892, possibly by W.S. Frith.
