Gargoyles, castellated parapets and crocketed pinnacles.
Detail of the western tower of Saint John the Baptist Church in Penistone. As well as conveying rainwater away from the church walls, gargoyles were often cut into grotesque forms serving to ward away the spirits of evil.
Good nave roof, arched-braced to figure-head corbels and with elaborate bosses (c1375).
