St Mary

Arlingham

Gloucestershire

C14, restored c1868 by H. James of Gloucester, and with north vestry of 1864.

Architectural Features

Perpendicular octagonal font with panelled stem.

Glass in chancel by Clayton and Bell.

The village church of St. Mary the Virgin in Arlingham dates from the 1350's and is in the Decorated style and has been little altered, avoiding Victorian improvements. Some of its stained glass windows is original, making it amongst the oldest in Gloucestershire, and is of the highest quality.

The church is maintained in immaculate condition with a large number of loyal and hardworking parishioners cleaning, polishing and decorating as well as tending the churchyard, so I understand.

Nave has 2 very old ruby glass windows, probably c1340, depicting figures of Sts John and Mary in one, and St Margaret and another female saint in second.
