Late C12 arcades, heightened in C15

Architectural Features

C14 north wall, partly rebuilt 1868

mid C15 tower

INTERIOR: panelled reredos against east wall in form of Palladian arch with fluted Corinthian pilasters, frieze with shell and palm mouldings carved in relief, and enriched cornice: incorporates round-headed Commandment, Creed and Paternoster boards.

Other carvings include dove in glory in head of central panel, winged cherub heads over flanking panels, and St Michael slaying a dragon above, between urns.

Communion rails are richly carved turned balusters between panelled standards, with heavy moulded handrail, carved with foliage.

Tower arches of three hollow chamfered orders on piers and responds of eight clustered columns and shafts with C15 replica waterleaf capitals and moulded bases.

Doorcase frieze carved with acanthus beneath enriched cornice and segmental pediment enclosing a mask and foliage trails.

Left hand light:
(5b) The Trinity with inscriptions 'laudam(us)' and 't(ri)nitas' in head of third light, 
(4b) '[Sera]phin', bareheaded.
(3b) 'Troni'  wearing crowns, middle angel holding scales. 
(2b) 'D(omi)n[a]cio(nes)', in full armour with crowns on their helmets, middle angel holding sword.
(1b) 'V[ir]t[u]tes' with doctors' caps.

Right hand light:
(5c) fragments including Lamb of God and inscriptions. Each main panel contains three angels set under flat canopies of several different designs.
(4c) 'Cherubin', bareheaded, each of outer two holding open book,
(3c) Powers, in full armour with orles on helmets, middle one possibly originally beating devil with birch rod, fragments of the inscription in head of third light; a fragmentary inscription 'Iosa[(?)phat]', with facial initial, is probably from another window.
(2c) 'Princ[ipatus]', wearing diadems with crosses,
(1c) '[Arc]hangeli' and 'Angil[i]', bareheaded with their belts hung with alternately bells and leaves, middle one holding trumpet(?).
