St Mary's church > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/4416108 dates from the 13th century with the tower added in the 14th century. Chancel and nave are separated by a wooden chancel arch > http://www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1370919 with open fretwork in the spandrels. On the south chancel wall there is a large C17 monument to John Herne (seen here). According to the translation on offer on the wall below it, the Latin inscription reads:

Memorial to Mary Herne
daughter of George Pit
of Harrow on the Hill
in the county of Middlesex.
Most beloved wife
of John Herne
of Arminghall Norfolk.
Widowed nearly 33 years
during which time she remained
happily faithful to no-one but God.
A loyal, dutiful and virtuous friend
to the poor being generous
but fair with her property.
With certain hope
and welcome fulfilment, she found
rest in death at last on
January 31
in the 74th year of her life
the year of our Lord 1697.

Wall monument to John Herne 1697 of stone and painted plaster.
